Walnut Wall Jali Panel

Decorative piece with intricate design

€150.00

The walnut wall jali panel is a stunning representation of the intricate craftsmanship inspired by the jali-screened buildings of Murad Khani, a historic district in Kabul. This modern take on the traditional jali screen reflects the artistry that has evolved over generations, where skilled artisans have perfected the art of creating perforated wood slabs. These elegant latticed screens, prominent in both Hindu and Islamic architecture, were originally designed for window coverings, room dividers, and balcony railings. Hand-carved from walnut, a tree native to Kunar province, our wall jali panel beautifully marries tradition with contemporary design, adding a unique and sophisticated touch to any space. The delicate patterns and meticulous details of the panel showcase the cultural heritage and artistry that continue to thrive in these exquisite handicrafts.

Craftsmanship

This masterpiece is made by Afghan artisans whose skill and dedication shine through despite immense challenges. Since the Taliban’s rise to power in August 2021, we have taken steps to ensure the safety of our partners by withholding identifying information. While some artisans have relocated, many remain in Afghanistan, where their craft provides a crucial source of income amid economic and humanitarian struggles. Supporting their work is more important than ever.

Supporting Livelihoods
Carpet weaving has become one of the few sustainable income sources for women in Afghanistan. The earnings from each Carpet sold are now more essential than ever, following the inception of this initiative—a collaboration between Azizi Art and local artisans. These beautiful rugs are woven by women who have been displaced within the country due to the impacts of climate change. This income serves two vital purposes: providing financial stability for the weavers and enabling them to explore livelihoods beyond agriculture.

The Weavers’ Story
Each Carpet is a masterpiece, meticulously crafted by hand. Men handle tasks such as spinning and dyeing the wool, as well as washing the finished rugs, while the weaving is done by women from Faryab province in Afghanistan, often within their own homes. This partnership allows Azizi Art to contribute their designs, empowering the women and showcasing their craftsmanship to a global audience.

Exceptional Wool
The uniqueness of Afghan Carpet lies in the extraordinary quality of their wool. Every thread is spun by hand, giving these rugs a distinctive character. Turkman wool, known for its long fibers and remarkable durability, ensures that these Carpet are not only visually stunning but also built to last for generations, making them timeless treasures.
